Marichel Vineyards
Longtime growers Richard
and Elizabeth Roskell
are some of Naramata’s
orginal “Rhone Rangers”
pursuing the best
examples of Syrah and
Viognier. After selling
their fruit to other
wineries (including
Kettle Valley) for a
number of years they
decided that their fruit
was too good to let go.
This is their second
release and it is
limited to only a 150
cases. The 2006 Marichel
Vineyards Syrah was aged
exclusively in 100% new
French oak for 18 months
and while it exhibits
true Syrah
characteristics of both
the Northern Rhone and
Barossa, this wine is a
pure expression of the
Naramata Bench.

“The winery produced 185
six-bottle cases of this
wine. It is a blend
of 60% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 22% Merlot
and 18%Cabernet Franc.
The vineyard includes
these three varieties.
This elegant wine tastes
like something that one
might encounter while
running the Medoc
marathon. The texture is
firm and age worthy. On
the palate, there are
flavours of red berries,
plum, cedar, chocolate,
with a hint of vanilla
on the nose. Still a
young wine for this
style, it benefits from
decanting. 88 Points.”
